On 24 November 2017 the three North of Tyne Authorities agreed a ‘minded-to’ devolution deal with Government for a significant shift of powers, funding and responsibility.
The deal provides the opportunity for the area to begin to take control of decisions that previously have been made in Westminster and provides access to a long-term investment fund of £600m.
Through the deal, new powers and the investment fund will be used to help existing businesses to grow, attract new businesses to the area and deal with the diverse challenges around educational attainment and skills provision for residents.
The creation of a North of Tyne Combined Authority will require Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland councils to come out of the existing North East Combined Authority (NECA). The consultation explains these changes and seeks your views.
North Tyneside Business Forum management group will be submitting a response to the consultation and any member business can have their input into our response by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 19 January 2018.
