Spotlight on Success: GasTech Ltd

Spotlight on Success: GasTech Ltd

Since winning Business of the Year 2017, GasTech Ltd has had a bumper year for business at its headquarters on Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.

Back in March, North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn CBE, along with David W Bavaird, Chair of North Tyneside Business Forum, paid a visit to GasTech’s unit to meet some of the firm’s growing workforce and to get a first-hand insight into the business.

Since the visit, GasTech has gone onto win SME of the Year Award at the Tyneside and Northumberland Business Awards.

What does GasTech Ltd do?

GasTech specialises in providing a wide range of mechanical and electrical building services within North Tyneside and across the UK. The company’s portfolio of work in the local area includes working with a number of the borough’s schools and businesses to ensure their mechanical and engineering systems are statutory compliant and running efficiently. Our services range from repairing a broken boiler to designing and installing a new heating system for a school, hospital or commercial building.

How did you come to apply for the Manufacturing and Construction Award, which you also won?

We were encouraged to apply for the award by clients and suppliers to gain some recognition for the rapid growth the business has achieved in recent years, which has included employing many new people from the borough.

What does winning the award mean to your business?

We’re absolutely delighted to be named North Tyneside Business of the Year. The award has stood us in good stead going forward and as a company we have a growing presence across the North East and beyond. Since winning the award in 2017 our turnover has once again doubled from £2,500,000 to £5,000,000 for 2018.

What are your plans moving forward?

We are very firmly rooted in North Tyneside and will continue to invest in our facilities and growing workforce here, creating further upskilling and employment opportunities for local people in the process.

What’s the best thing about running a business in North Tyneside?

We find North Tyneside an excellent base to operate from. Many of the employees at GasTech live within the borough so transport links are key. Since winning the award we have developed further links with the local authority and North Tyneside Business Forum, and have found them very supportive and approachable.
