Air Quality Public Consultation 2019

Air Quality Public Consultation 2019

North Tyneside businesses and residents are encouraged to take part in the public consultation on air quality measures to address pollution caused by vehicles.

North Tyneside Council is working together with Gateshead Council and Newcastle City Council to help improve air quality in our area. The three councils are required by the Government to prepare a plan setting out actions in response to levels of roadside nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on certain roads. These include a short section of the A1058 Coast Road in North Tyneside (around 1km between A186 Station Road Wallsend and the Newcastle city boundary) as well as a wider area within Newcastle and Gateshead.

We have now begun consultation on the potential measures that could be put in place and we are very keen to hear from as many people as possible, as well as businesses and voluntary organisations.

We want to ensure that the measures we put in place not only help to improve air quality but avoid a negative impact on the economy, businesses and people on lower incomes. As well as seeking views on different types of charging measures, we’re also interested to hear people’s views on the types of vehicles that could be charged, and on financial support or exemptions that could be put in place to help people affected.

We would encourage you to take part in the consultation so that we can take your opinions into account, along with those of other respondents, when we develop our final proposals.

The consultation is open until 17 May 2019 – you can take part at:
