Spotlight on Success: Carney Consultancy

NORTH TYNESIDE IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR CONSULTANCY

Carney Consultancy’s work with charities and not-for-profit organisation has put them right at the heart of their local community.

Providing health and safety consultancy and training from The Smokehouse on North Shields Fish Quay, the company prides itself on taking on talent from the North Shields and Whitley Bay area to provide consultancy and training services throughout North Tyneside.

Managing Director, Angela Carney, tells us more about the company and how winning the 2018 Heart of the Community Award, at the North Tyneside Business Awards, has supported her business.

Tell us a little more about Carney Consultancy

I started Carney Consultancy back in 2002, just two weeks before my son arrived in to the world – in hindsight it might not have been the best time to start a business!

We moved to our current premises in April 2013 and just love the amazing views over the River Tyne that we enjoy here. We provide health and safety training and consultancy services to the engineering and construction industry.

How did you come to be nominated for the Heart of the Community Award?

We do a lot of work with a variety of charities and not for profit organisations in the region and were delighted when one of them, Phoenix Detached Youth Project, put us forward for the award.

What does winning the Award mean to your business?

It has really put us on the map with other businesses and business leaders. It was lovely to be recognised for the work we do with charities and will hopefully help to raise their profiles too. They’re all such worthwhile causes so it would be good to help them get more community support and funding.

What are you plans for the business?

We are actively growing our business to achieve two things. Firstly, we’d like to employ more, new trainee H&S advisers as well as an accounts apprentice, later this year. Secondly, we are hoping to raise more profits, so we can contribute more to the charities and help them further develop their successes.

What’s the best thing about running a business in North Tyneside?

For us it’s the location. Everyone who visits our offices comments on the amazing views and how nice it is down here on the Fish Quay. It really helps to boost people’s opinion of the North Shields Fish Quay area, which is constantly growing and attracting new restaurants and bars.
