Insight Into…Management Group, Mike Peeke-Vout

From gap year project to successful, established business, Michael Peeke-Vout talks about his business Wubbleyou, his involvement in the Business Forum management group and his hopes for the future of business in North Tyneside.

What’s your role in the NTBF management team?

With my IT background, I consult on areas where technology could help the Forum with its processes as well as providing specialist advice about existing technology. Essentially, I represent the IT sector within the management group.

Wubbleyou has been a member of the Forum for many years and I have enjoyed attending most of the events organised by them. When an opportunity for microbusinesses to get involved came along I felt that I could bring new ideas and support to an already thriving and exciting organisation.

Tell us a little more about Wubbleyou

I’m Michael Peeke-Vout and I’m one of the directors at Wubbleyou.

We’re a technology company based in North Shields and we work closely with start-ups and scale-up businesses in the North East to help them use technology to improve business processes.

Myself and my business partner set up Wubbleyou during our gap year. We were both studying computer science at Northumbria University when we set up the business in 2010. We decided to take the opportunity of the gap year to set the business up, then worked on it part time when we returned to study for our fourth and final year.

When we graduated in 2011 we both returned to the business full time and have been growing the business ever since. We celebrate our 10th year in business early in 2020.

Our business model is to work with other businesses to automate and systemise processes to increase productivity. I have a keen interest in technology and use my experience within the sector to produce software and applications that can have a huge positive effect within businesses.

Does your role on the team create connections for you in business and indeed in your life outside the Forum?

Being part of the Forum Management Team has been like entering into an extended business family. I’ve built relationships with other members of the management team and it’s great to have such a pool of expertise around me to call on for support and advice.

Thinking even wider, we’ve forged great working relationships with organisations such as North Tyneside Council, delivering products and services to help build a bigger and better start-up community in the region – so my involvement in the Forum Management Team has definitely been a positive thing.

As a company, we’re also involved with organisations like the North East Chamber of Commerce, the North Shields Business Chamber and Digital Union so we’re making strong links throughout the business community as a whole.

How do you see the Forum developing in the future?

I can only see the Forum getting larger in size and supporting more businesses in the future.

Judging by the success of some of the events they’ve held recently I’d like to see the events attracting even more businesses from the region, as well as attracting attendees from outside the region to see what we have to offer in North Tyneside.

My vision for the Forum is to see clusters being built between sectors for support and collaboration, such as the IT sector members joining together to work on bigger projects and showcasing the talents we have in the region.
