Employers across the North of Tyne region are being asked for their views on what they believe classifies as ‘good work’.
It comes as part of a consultation to produce new guidelines to promote an inclusive economy to ensure people living in Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle have access to jobs that provide security, skills, progression opportunities, a decent standard of living and other qualities.
The responses to the North of Tyne Combined Authority’s consultation will go towards the formation of a new North of Tyne Good Work Business Pledge.
The Good Work Business Pledge would then provide business across the region with a toolkit to understand how they can ensure their employees have access to ‘good work’ and how this can be achieved.
North of Tyne Mayor Jamie Driscoll said: “Every business leader knows that a secure, motivated workforce is the foundation of success. Workers who feel looked after perform better. Good employers know this translates into more profitable business in the private sector, and better services in the public sector.
“We want all of our businesses to level-up, and make the North of Tyne the best place to live and work. So please share with us the good practice you’re already doing, what innovations you could take to make your organisation a model employer that people want to work for, and how we can use the Good Work Pledge to help you get there.”
Stage 1 of the consultation determined that ‘good work’ should include rewards, a healthy and safe environment, effective communication and development opportunities.
The second stage of the consultation seeks to further develop the makeup of the pledge with input from business and other stakeholders on how it could operate in the North of Tyne area.
