We want to evolve

We want to evolve

We love talking to members about what they do, why they love North Tyneside as a place to do business. We’ve been chatting to Space @, Whitley Bay.

Tell us a little more about the business

Space @ is Whitley Bay’s first and only dedicated collaborative workspace offering small offices, dedicated collaborative desks and meeting room facilities to freelancers, remote workers and businesses situated along the coast. Space @ is not a managed work service, it’s a community of like minded business people, supporting each other to achieve their goals.

What is your motivation for doing what you do?

As a local resident I know that Whitley Bay has the most wonderful coastline, some of the region’s best schools and some wonderful business owners living here. The one thing they all had in common was the daily trudge of a commute; either into Newcastle, to a business park or further afield. I knew from speaking with Remote Workers, Freelancers and Business Owners that they want to live local and work local. Work life balance is vital; dropping the kids at school, taking the dog for a walk and then heading into work. There was a distinct gap in the market for an exciting venture like Space @.

What are your plans for the business?

Hopefully growth; we want to evolve, to be even more reactive to what our current and future members want. We’re looking at premise number four (currently Space at occupies 224, 226 and 228 Park View) and a slightly different collaborative option for those who need a more ad hoc solution, but don’t want to work from home or perched on the end of a busy coffee shop table. Its exciting times for everyone at Space @ and our community

How has North Tyneside Business Forum helped your business?

We’ve been along to quite a few of the North Tyneside Business Forum events and they’ve been great, allowing us to open up conversations with potential Space @ Members and creating a larger profile for Space @ across North Tyneside.

As a resident and passionate supporter of the region, seeing local businesses collaborate and grow is one of my all time favourite things of doing business in North Tyneside.

Have you worked in collaboration with any other North Tyneside businesses?

Absolutely! Our ethos is #MeetCollaborateWork and everything we do points towards this 😊 We’ve been doing a lot of work  local companies like Pebble Blue Communications and BizBox, who designed our website. Naturally, many of our Space @ Members are also part of the NTBF including ROAR Digital, Headland Marketing and Clear Editorial. Pulp Fiction and Whitley Bay Brewing Company (which includes our neighbours Gilbert & Smiths) are just two of the businesses which are part of our Privilege Scheme offering discounts to Space @ Members. We want to do more and welcome conversations and suggestions from all North Tyneside companies.

One thing that makes your business different from the rest

Our offering is unique in North Tyneside, so I guess that makes us somewhat different to the rest!

Creating a community, a support network along with tech enabled quirky offices right on peoples doorstep which proactively encourage collaborative working is a pretty cool and unique proposition to most business owners. We want to do more, we want to Meet, Collaborate and Work with as many companies as we can.
