Anyone can stick a camera in the room

We love talking to members about what they do, why they love North Tyneside as a place to do business. We’ve been chatting to Joel Lowson Videography.

Tell us a little more about the business

I am a freelance Videographer and animator who specialises in creating promotional video content for businesses and events to help market them across their website and social media channels. On top of this I also film wedding videos so that happy couples can look back upon their wedding day for years to come.

What is your motivation for doing what you do?

I love creating videos, each one is a unique craft and in turn I receive a big level of satisfaction when it is complete. On top of that, I have always been excited by movies, documentaries and anything moving image, I just love the fact you can watch something and it can make you think and feel.

Video isn’t just something pretty to look at, it is a great medium to convey messages and stories to an audience in an exciting and digestible manner. I want to help people tell their stories to as many people as they can and have a way to create thoughts and emotions as a response.

What are your plans for the business?

I want to continue creating promotional material for other businesses but to then develop that into  working with bigger businesses to work on bigger projects and have a bigger impact.

On top of that, I want to use the promotional/corporate work that I do as a stepping stone so that as I grow my career I can transition into making long form documentaries. It goes back into the storytelling aspect I love but documentaries are just an hour long story about a real life topic, issue or person and the aim is always to inform and have an impact, whether that is socially or emotionally.

I feel like I would never be truly satisfied without creating documentaries as it is my way of making an impact on the world, whether that is just to a single person laugh, cry or learn something new.

How has North Tyneside Business Forum helped your business?

My favourite thing about working in the North Tyneside is not just the lovely coast, bars and restaurants that we have, but the support from all the lovely people that I’ve met.

North Tyneside Business Forum has helped my to connect with like minded people within the North Tyneside which has helped me to grow, learn about different elements of business and also gain work whether that is through the people in the North Tyneside or even just someone in their network which is great for anyone, especially if they are just starting out.

One thing that makes your business different from the rest

What makes me different from the rest of the videographers around is that I focus heavily on the storytelling aspect. That doesn’t mean the video needs talking or narration but that it has an actual purpose and message.

Anyone can stick a camera in the room and hit record, what I do is craft the video into something that will achieve your goals. Whether that be, promoting your services, explaining a new product, showing the benefits of working with you, etc. It’s all about figuring out the best approach and direction to promote you through video and animation.
