With a background in education, Michael Burton is one of the newest members of the Business Forum Management Team. We talked to him about his experience and his decision to become a member of the team.
What’s your role in the NTBF management team?
I am well placed to represent the further education sector.
I became a member in November 2019 because I have a passion for high quality training delivery and employer solutions within Post 16 Education sector. I’m hoping to influence the education sector within the North Tyneside Business Community as part of my role.
Tell us a little more about your background
I’m the Head of Engineering and Construction at the Tyne Metropolitan College in North Tyneside in my current role.
In the past, I’ve been an electrical power engineer for British Coal and UK Coal and enjoyed 25 years in the industry before moving across into the education sector. I now provide educational advice and guidance to an engineering and construction audience.
Does your role on the team create connections for you in business and indeed in your life outside the Forum?
Being a member of the management team will create networking opportunities for me, both within the team itself and through the many events and networking meetings the Forum runs. It’ll also help me keep up to date with local and regional business community information and any new information with the education sector too.
How do you see the Forum developing in the future?
I’d like to help make a translation between what the Business Community believes are the skills required for now and the next generation and the how Further Education Sector can best align to support that.
