Voting is open for the Heart of the Community Award

Three North Tyneside businesses have been recognised for their voluntary work which has had a major positive effect on their local community during the COVID pandemic.

The Heart of the Community award, part of the annual North Tyneside Business Forum awards, encourages North Tyneside residents to say ‘thank you’ to a business which has made a significant contribution to their local area. The three nominees were shortlisted after the Forum’s management group sifted through dozens of worthy contenders.

The three firms have all been nominated by the public after going the extra mile to serve their customers and the community. The businesses, H&S Convenience Store in Hadrian Park, Wallsend, Black Storm Brewery in Whitley Bay and SOS Industrial Ltd on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate will find out if they have won the prestigious Heart of the Community Award at the North Tyneside Business Forum Annual Awards Ceremony on December 17

This year however, the normally glitzy event will be held online with the audience sitting at home in front of their laptops and mobiles. That won’t stop the hosts from putting on their glad rags to introduce the nominees and virtually present the prizes.

MC for the evening is popular BBC presenter and comedian Steffen Peddie while the presentations will be given by Chair of the Forum, Karen Goldfinch.

Karen said:

“We appreciate the huge contribution that businesses make to our local economy and quite rightly we like to shout out about their achievements. However, many businesses have taken a downturn this year and we didn’t feel that now was the time to hold a full awards ceremony.

“However, it is very important to acknowledge those businesses that have helped their local community and also the many businesses that have adapted due to the situation and found new ways to deliver their services.”

The Heart of the Community awards will be presented following a period of public voting on the Forum’s website. Voting will remain open until 6pm on 17th December.

On the same evening, the Elected Mayor’s Spirit of North Tyneside Award will also be presented. The nominees are Whitley Bait, Blind Pig and Yoga Tribe NE.

The North Tyneside Business Forum is run by a management group made up of members from various industry sectors in the Borough and gives support in the form of networking, events and signposting for growth and development. Membership is free and open to any business of any size trading within North Tyneside. The Business Forum is supported by North Tyneside Council.

The Forum is FREE to join and is for any business with a trading address in North Tyneside.
