Community Gets Splash of Colour to Banish Lockdown Blues

Community Gets Splash of Colour to Banish Lockdown Blues

A North Tyneside Business Forum member has decided to splash out to help a Howdon charity – but it’s not with money, it’s with paint.

Tynemouth Decorators Ltd in partnership with Newcastle based decorating centres (Johnstones, Brewers and Dulux) are delighted to host a “FREE Paint Giveaway” with Family Gateway at the Howdon Hub in Denbigh Avenue. The paint is of trade quality standard in a variety of colours.

Hosted over two days, from 10am – 4pm, the first day, Tuesday 29th September will be for local charities and businesses to attend the Hub and choose from the wide range of colours available. On the second day the Hub will be open to the general public.

Stephen Hull from Tynemouth Decorators explains why the event is taking place.

“We and our suppliers have a surplus of partially used tins and discontinued lines that could be used to brighten up someone’s home or community project. We really want to make a difference to people in North Tyneside and make it an even brighter place to live.”

The event is being hosted by Family Gateway, a charity supporting whole families who are living in poverty or disadvantage and struggling to bring up their children on very little money.

Family Gateway’s Mandie Smedley said: “We’ve been working in partnership with Tynemouth Decorators for a number of years and each time we do the paint giveaway event it helps the people we are supporting and raises awareness of our work.”

Karen Goldfinch, Chair of North Tyneside Business Forum said:

“This is an excellent example of one of our members going the extra mile to help their local community which fits in with the Forum’s new initiative to help businesses and the community at large recover from COVID-19. Our “Forward with the Forum” campaign looks at helping businesses with advice on finance, recovery and well-being and Stephen is helping not only the community but he’s also adding a splash of colour to brighten us all up. We’re really pleased that Tynemouth Decorators who were finalists in the Forum’s Heart of the Community Award last year, are continuing their excellent work to help others.”

Due to COVID 19, the event will be subject to current restrictions. Access to The Hub will be by booked appointment and all attendees will be expected to use hand-sanitiser on the day. There may be a short delay upon entry due to recent government guidelines.

The North Tyneside Business Forum is run by a management group made up of members from various industry sectors in the Borough and gives support in the form of networking, events and signposting for growth and development. Membership is free and open to any business of any size trading within North Tyneside. The Business Forum is supported by North Tyneside Council.
