Soil Machine Dynamics Ltd – Know Your Numbers Campaign

Soil Machine Dynamics Ltd – Know Your Numbers Campaign

Soil Machine Dynamics is an advanced global designer and manufacturer of subsea remotely operated and autonomous power and control solutions.

In September 2021, following 17 months of COVID-19 restrictions and with the majority of our staff predominantly home working, we had seen an increase in staff coming back to the office to work and we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to arrange a campaign that would allow staff to physically take part. We contacted our Occupational Health Provider to see if they could support us alongside promoting the Know your Numbers Campaign for Blood Pressure UK.

Blood Pressure UK is the only UK charity dedicated to lowering the nation’s blood pressure to prevent stroke and heart disease and the Know your Number Campaign is all about getting your Blood Pressure numbers checked.

We decided to do a slightly different campaign and in conjunction with getting your Blood Pressure checked, we offered a full health check to staff. This included:

  • BMI Check
  • Healthy Eating & Exercise advice
  • Cholesterol Check
  • Overall health advice

The event took place on 30th September 2021 with appointments available with a trained Occupational Health Technician. Once we announced the campaign, each appointment was booked by the end of the day. The overall feedback from the campaign was employees thought it was a great idea to have the opportunity to attend a health check appointment on site, found it interesting to talk to a trained technician on healthy eating and guidelines and hope that SMD will continue to carry out this campaign on an annual event.

SMD has been part of the Better Health at Work Award for two years now and we have recently submitted our Silver Award portfolio. We have worked on various campaigns throughout this time and looking forward to going into year 3 and working towards the Gold Award where we will be supported by Maureen Turner – Workplace Health Improvement Specialist from Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust.
