Spotlight on Success: Winning awards and planning for sustainability

Craig Smith is founder and director of The Printed Bag Company. The company works with leading brands all over the UK and enjoy an impressive turnover.

Craig tells us more about his business’s recent award success and what it’s like running a successful business in North Tyneside.

Tell us a little more about The Printed Bag Company

I started the company in 2007 from my living room. With the help of Prince’s Trust, we have been able to grow really successfully since then. We are now based in a business centre in Killingworth and have a team of six people.

We are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of printed bags and packaging and have won several awards over the years. We currently turn over approximately £1.3million and supply brands like Boohoo, Ocado, Next, Newcastle United Football Club, Revlon and Kettle Food.

How did you come to apply for the Retail and Service Provider Award?

I nominated our company as a thank you to my team. They’ve worked so hard to make us one of the best in our industry. Our success is all down to the hard work and customer service they all provide to our customers, and I’m so proud of them.

What does winning the Award mean to your business?

It’s huge for us. Not only does it give the team a boost, but it also shows that the local community also believe we are a great company. Winning the award also gives us great credibility in the local business community. We display our award with pride and regularly share our success with our customers and suppliers.

What are your plans for the business?

As the anti-plastic movement gathers more momentum, we’re looking for ways to remove plastic from our product offering altogether. We’re great ambassadors for eco-friendly packaging and are always looking for new and better options for our customers to pass on to their customers.

What’s the best thing about running a business in North Tyneside?

Location is crucial to us as we work with some really big brands, nationwide. When we mention we are a North East company based in North Tyneside, most people are familiar with the area and seem to have a good feeling about us as a result. We are proud to be based in North Tyneside and I’m a proud North Easterner myself. I keep a close eye on plans in the business community.
