North Tyneside Business Awards: NE Display

North Tyneside Business Awards: NE Display

We chatted to Angela Tuplin, one of the founders of NE Display to find out how one of her team winning an award at last year’s ceremony has impacted her, the business and the team as whole.

Tell us about NE Display

NE Display is based on the West Chirton Industrial Estate in North Shields. We provide large-format printing for the exhibition, retail and signage industries and help businesses elevate their brands with design and graphic displays.

Established in 2004, we’ve been trading for 18 years and were originally founded by myself and Clarissa Wilson. We’re both ambitious for the business and enjoy driving the growth and success of NE Display. We started off a small printing company producing posters and point of sale graphics. In 2014 we acquired a competitor to enter the exhibition hire sector and we’re still the only exhibition and hire company in the North East of England.

Like so many other business, our work dried up completely during the Coronavirus outbreak. But instead of shutting up shop, we concentrated on new markets, successfully adding a new arm to our business – the outdoor signage sector.

We’re very proud of our team here at NE Display and encourage them to branch out and take opportunities offered to them. Josh, for example, runs his own business alongside his work with us. He runs JT Workshop in Jarrow, personalising laser cut gifts. He received a British Empire Medal during the Covid pandemic for the work he did making PPE when levels were critically low.

Another of our team members is Peter who also helps Josh out a trade stalls at weekends. We have a very strong and talented team.

What award did you win in 2022 and how has it affected your business?

We are incredibly proud of Peter Adamson who was awarded the North Tyneside Business Award for Heart of the Business. Peter has been with us for ten years and is a highly respected member of the team.

There is no doubt that Peter is the best in this industry, not only for the many hats he wears within NE Display, but for the creative talent he brings to the table. Peter completely runs the production within NE Display. He not only knows how to operate the production machines but he understands efficient processes.  You don’t often come across employees within the printing industry that can design, print, finish and install all to high standards like Peter can.

The artwork Peter produces puts NE Display at the very highest level of graphic design and gives us opportunities to win every quote we put in. Our clients love Peter and are now placing orders before they even see the final artwork – that’s how much he is trusted and admired.

Seeing Peter win the award was an incredible feeling for the whole team here at NE Display. It gave us the opportunity to showcase just what an asset Peter is to us, but also to show loads of other businesses what we’re capable of with Peter on our team. We have received endless amounts of support as a result of winning the award.

Would you recommend other businesses to apply for an award this year?

Definitely. Being part of the awards last year has not only raised the NE Display profile but it has opened doors for the business too. We are still recognised as one of the winners last year and we met loads of other brilliant businesses during the process. We were given a rare night off to enjoy the awards ceremony and it also gave us the opportunity to reflect on and appreciate our team and how great the community of North Tyneside is.

As a result of being part of NTBF has opened up opportunities for new business, networking events and the chance to meet other North Tyneside businesses to build relationships. We are actively promoting the 2023 awards and already have loads of businesses in mind who should put themselves forward.

We would highly recommend that other businesses think about entering the awards. Get out there and learn more about the business community around you – we’re all in this together and should support each other any way we can.
